24 Hours codifies the testimony of a woman in exile on the island of Makronissos, in the years of the dictatorship in Greece. The work is entitled 24 Hours, as I wrote what happened the day the prisoner was forced to reform, to change or “correct” her political beliefs. I used correction pen to transcribe her account, so as to erase and correct rather than reveal, and in order to bring out the script’s relief image, within the relationship of white on white. In the Trikeri concentration camp women prisoners kept diaries, which they hid in holes in the ground or inside trees. They were called “the hidden notebooks”.
