Phenomenon 4
27 June–11 July, 2022

The Phenomenon Association and Kerenidis Pepe Collection are pleased to share the program of the fourth edition of Phenomenon, a biennial program of contemporary art held on the Aegean island of Anafi, Greece. Phenomenon 4 included a public program between 27 June and 4 July 2022 and an exhibition opening on 2 July and running until 10 July 2022.

Taking as a starting point the island’s life and the way it has been reshaped over the years—from its yearlong agricultural cycle until the 1980s, to currently accommodating a seasonal tourist period followed by a winter migration to the mainland—Phenomenon 4 explored the notion of time and the construction of temporalities and their effects on our daily lives. Time is not the same for all. In times of radical socio-political shifts and after a long period of stagnation, the linear conception of time needs to be questioned. By establishing another way of relating that foregrounds a shared experience of collaboration and coexistence, Phenomenon 4 invited us to reassess our relationship with time. In a remote place like Anafi, where time has a different pace, we were asked to reconsider our normative rhythms, to think and act differently.
