Gyan Panchal
La Chute, 2019

Fragment of a protective suit, resin, marker for cattle
37 × 29 cm
Edition of 3

The materials used by [Gyan Panchal] are often objects found in a rural environment. Often fragmentary, washed, dyed… reduced to their simplest expression, “to the threshold of themselves”, they are barely recognisable once they become sculptures, for example the fragment of a protective suit. Panchal’s work titles often refer to human behavior (Le pas, L’haleine, or here La chute [the Fall]), stripping the object of the last remains of its past. His sculptures can be seen as an attempt to learn from and about nature and its living creatures, a world which, according to the artist, “is not directed towards us”.
