Valentina Magaletti is an Italian drummer, composer and percussionist based in London. Her goal is to strategically enrich a folkloristic and eclectic palette through endless listening and experimentation with new materials and sounds.

For phenomenon 5, Valentina Magaletti presented at Arsenale her video A Queer Anthology of Drums. She composed the music of the video (first released digitally in 2020) over several home recording sessions as the documentation of a journey that never took place. She later developed the cinematic equivalent of her album, which she dedicated to queer musicians. In her short film, she translates the multi-layered sound levels into intimate perceptions of everyday occurrences.

Loupa Bar on Roukounas beach hosted a listening session of Basta Now (Women, Trans & Non-Binary in Experimental Music), a playlist curated by Valentina Magaletti and Fanny Chiarello. The playlist’s title is also that of a non-academic essay published by Permanent Draft, their all-female record label and micro-press in 2024, by French poet, novelist and music enthusiast Fanny Chiarello. Basta Now constitutes a huge (yet admittedly not definitive) overview of 2,371 womxn in the global experimental sound and music scene. The playlist is freely accessible to listen here.
