Characters is a collection of boxes. Each box contains the total sum of letters that make up a text performed by an iconic theater character. The sum of these letters represents the body of the character, a “body of voice”, a “body of text”. From the very start, Fortuné’s work has been dealing with the missing image. Something is there that is not the whole, but the ghostly sign of something else, a remnant, a revenant, a trace that persists in the psyche, the memory and the collective unconscious.
