Xenofontos’ curtains is one of the artist’s longest-running series, predating her professional art career and continuing through it. Since the early 2000s, Xenofontos has been drawn to making curtains for family and friends, sourcing velvets, sheers, and cottons from small, family-run fabric shops, many of which are referenced in the titles of the works. These pieces reflect her early and ongoing interest in mediating light. Taken directly from the artist’s home, Curtain made for the bedroom in the artist’s apartment in Limassol. Used between 2020-2023. Fabric bought from George’s textiles in Limassol in 2020. Blue Velvet fabric with blackout backing, now bears the physical traces of daily life, its surface marked by the passage of time and years of exposure to the Cypriot sun.
