Daniel Steegmann Mangrané
Kanazawa Leaf, 2024
Kanazawa Leaf belongs to a long series of works by Daniel Steegmann Mangrané using found branches and twigs, which are carefully split in two or partially incised. In a variety of configurations, whether suspended, posed or hung, these pieces bring effects of symmetry, tension, and balance into play. This edition stands out for the integration of a leaf made of brass, delicately held between the two halves of the twig, as if supported by two arms. The anthropomorphic dimension is certainly present here, yet this does not sum up the multiple associations elicited by this subtle interweaving of artificial and natural, graphic and organic, and separation and fullness.
