Julien Nédélec
Lettres muettes, 2011

The artist takes disappearance as a theme, favoring suggestion over grand demonstrations, inviting us to engage our imagination, take our time, and perceive words and letters not only as forms but also as catalysts for activating the works. (…) As a tribute to all the letters whose presence in writing goes unnoticed in speech, the work Lettres muettes revisits a poem by Francis Ponge, Des raisons d’écrire (“Reasons for Writing”), from which the artist has retained only the silent letters.
