Vasilis Papageorgiou
Umbra Solar Eclipse, 2022

Copper plated plastic and marble
63 × 60 × 22 cm
Unique

A curtain is a boundary between the hidden and the visible, the backstage and the foreground, the observer and the observation field. Papageorgiou’s overall practice constantly oscillates between the private and the public space, and carries different connotations, especially of labor and productivity. In Umbra Solar Eclipse, (…) the [curtain] lose [its] inherent and essential ability to fold, as [it freezes] in a single function –of concealment or revelation. [A marble sphere is placed near it], adding to the suggestion of a (possibly instigated) eclipse.
